2019 Holiday TV Movie Binge Watch - Movie #14
Christmas with a Prince: Becoming Royal is a sequel which continues the story of the previous film Christmas with A Prince that was based on the novel St. Piran’s: Prince on the Children’s Ward by Sarah Morgan. It’s part of the St. Piran’s Hospital Series by various authors. I have no idea if any of these two films are faithful to its source material, I’m assuming no.
When I first heard that they made a sequel to Christmas with a Prince, a movie I hated with a passion last year, I was flabbergasted. That movie was such an embarrassment of terribleness I couldn’t believe it. But I’m an asshole and I feel the need to punish myself so here I go watching this freaking movie. I refused to watch the first film over again for a refresher. No fucking way.
I have to say this almost begrudgingly, but part two is a trillion times better then part one and it’s still not a good movie. The acting is still utterly terrible. They add a new dude to the story who does nothing because when he tries to help the problem is already resolved so there was no god damn point for his random appearances. They definitely upped the budget from five dollars to thirty dollars. The wardrobe is a thousand times better. They don’t look cheap or like they gonna fall apart at the seems. They fit the actors, no sagging pants on your size zero actresses. The setting of the story is much improved, leaving behind the one hospital set of the previous film for a castle was much better. Don’t worry, they still manage to squeeze in some hospital time. My eyes are rolling. This movie has a really familiar plot for one of these royal movies. A Prince who’ll eventually be king has fallen in love with a normal non royal woman. She’s a doctor who’s trying to fit in. Naturally there’s a third party who wants to ruin their happiness and snatch the prince for herself. That character, who I can’t remember what the hell her name was, had a small bitchy role in the first movie but comes back in full Dynasty bitch mode for this sequel. Original Dynasty not that shitty remake. It’s got a classic primetime soap opera vibe going on with the storyline and character reactions, but not as good as those glorious prime time soaps of the eighties. God the acting is so so terrible. How do some of these younglings get work? While not a great story it’s still a somewhat serviceable film. Works and flows much better than its predecessor. Someone out there likes these films, I know they exist.
My Rating: ⭐⭐½
