🎄 2021 Christmas Binge Watch Movie #7 🎄
-- LIGHT SPOILERS --
This movie totally gave me 'You've Got Mail' vibes. Or the 'Shop Around the Corner', or the musicals 'In the Good Old Summertime' or 'She Loves Me'. Whatever version you prefer I guess. The we don't know we're texting buddies is an updated iteration for modern audiences. This movie also reminded me of another Hallmark movie, 'Hello, It's Me' which was based on a novel. The whole grieving partner communicating with her deceased beloved via phone while trying to move on. Back to this movie now, I totally appreciate that the romance element of this was down played, and the relationship with her grandfather and friends was far more prominent. It's a sad but uplifting story. Somebody loved died around Christmas, so how do you move forward with your grief? I loved the friendships in this movie, it felt completely believable. All the snark, pushy, and well intended interventions were fun, and made this movie a nice change of pace than your average I loved somebody who died and now I found another person to love movies. This movie not only tackles grief, but also how one moves forward with potentially new dreams. Starting life over again can be hard, and I think this movie really tackles all these elements quite well. The cast is great, everyone has chemistry, and it's not overly sappy or melodramatic. There's quite a bit of funny moments throughout. I don't think there's anything that happens plot wise that will surprise the viewer, but it's still a very engaging watch.
My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐½
