๐ 2021 Christmas Binge Watch Movie #66 ๐
--- Spoilers ---
The more I think about this the movie the more I dislike it. Hallmark wants to have a spiritual type of film while not having it be at all religious except for those Godwink's one gets. What exactly was the Godwink of this movie, Joy emotionally cheating on her boyfriend or that poor guy getting run over? I have nothing against them doing a more religious themed holiday movie, but Hallmark wants to have it's cake and eat too. The spiritual nature of the characters are so ill defined, I don't know what they believe in. They are celebrating Christmas, but let's be real in a majority of Christmas movies now-a-days Christmas itself is the religion. The tree, the gifts, decorating, and baking are like the holy orders. Or were these folks just being polite to the that lady who's like Godwinks exist?
This is the fourth movie in the Godwink series that Hallmark has made. They are all inspired by true stories, and some are based on the books by Squire Rushnell and Louis Du Art. They continue to get worse with each one, and less spiritual. Though to be honest they never really were all that spiritually heavy to begin with. You'd just think with a title like Godwink there'd be a little more to it. I get that they are trying to get as many eyeballs as they can without offending anyone, but like if someone is truly offended or afraid they are gonna get preached to they will not watch something with Godwink in the title. I don't care really, I just find it odd. Personally I do like to watch religious movies from all faiths and all walks of life, it's nice to see all that represented.
I liked the cast, they did what they could to save this movie for me. It was hard to root for Joy and Eric to find their love because the entire time Joy had a boyfriend that she was too much of a coward to break up with. They had been together for five years, the guy was planning for a future and Joy just felt obligated cause he helped her family so much after her mom died. Where was the poor boyfriends Godwink? Guess he didn't merit one. I felt bad for Eric, he thinks he's got a chance with this lady, and then he doesn't, but wait he does. His reward was getting accidentally run over by a truck. Thanks to those Godwinks his doctor took an hour long course and was able to remember all the new surgical procedures to save his life. Joy being at the hospital gave him the will to live, sorry mom and dad. Like I hate this move. I did like that a group of people traveled some place to help build a home for a family in need, and make it perfect for Christmas. I can believe Joy and Eric become close because of that. You know that home was literally an office building right? I was laughing so hard, I was like who's office space are they using? If you pay real close attention to the room placements, where all the doors are at, and long hallways, it's an office and the conference room is where the living room is. My brother's old office space looked just like it. Made me laugh.
