๐ 2021 Christmas Binge Watch Movie #51 ๐
Hallmark has decided to make a two part movie series, that can be watched as stand-alones if you want, with sisters Kimberly Williams-Paisley and Ashley Williams. Each of these movies are taking place simultaneously with one another. First up is the Kimberly Williams-Paisley centered story. Jennifer is a single mother who runs a restaurant in Salt Lake City that is competing in some kind of Christmas contest. When sister Meg (Ashley Williams) shows up she says she'll handle all restaurant business with manager Joe (Keith Robinson) and Jennifer can go home and spend some time with her parents while they sell their late uncle's theater. Theres the swap.
While home with her parents, Jennifer, her son, and old high school crush/friend/councilman/handyman decide to try and fix the theater up for one last Christmas showing. Naturally things do not go well. Meg calls every now and then with some updates on her end, and as a viewer who knows that this is a two parter I knew that eventually all that stuff would be fleshed out in the next movie. I think if you just watch this film and not part two it's completely fine on its own, but it does feel slightly incomplete. You're like wondering what's going on with Meg as it does effect Jennifer, and the ending conclusion feels like you might be missing out on something, but otherwise it stands fine on it's own. Maybe it is because I knew it's a crossover movie event and I was overthinking it. I did have fun with this movie, it's a little kooky which I appreciate, and I really loved the chemistry and bubbling relationship between Kimberly Williams-Paisley and Mark Deklin's characters. It felt like a grown up romance, which was nice. It is another save the something movie, but they are trying to keep an old fashioned theater from being gutted of it's old world charm and history to be torn down for a modern day ugly multiplex. As a person who loves to go to theaters, it's rare to have an old fashioned theater still in service. It's cost prohibited with updating it, and that's actually covered in the film, but there is something about seeing an old historic building still thriving you know. There's a lot of Christmas cheer and movie theater love, so I had a good time watching and I'm looking forward to part two. It was great seeing Jim Brynes playing the sister's father. That's Joe Dawson, Duncan's BFF and watcher form “Highlander.” He's also Helen's father on “Sanctuary,” man I miss that show. Plus can't forget he was on “Wiseguy.” Yes, I am fan.
