This movie’s ballet is straight up trash. They do the bare minimum of a beginners class with lots of twirls and hope nobody notices. And they do the same salsa move over and over. Folks who don’t like ballet will notice it’s awful. You can see real dancers somewhere in this, thankfully, but you gotta wait till the end. The dancing is awful, I can’t get over it.
Outside of bad dancing, the movie is fine. We see a former ballerina struggle at her new job as a choreographer, mentoring a young girl in accomplishing her ballet dreams, and falling in luvs. We’ve got ladies living their dreams and representing their cultures. This movie is really about artists loving their craft, their heritage, and making their passions work. It’s a fine movie, wasn’t completely won over by it though. I wish it was a little more fun, some of the performances felt stilted, but it’s a decent watch. And it’s something different than your average typical Christmas movie.
