Christmas in July 2022 - Movie #17 ๐Ÿฉฑ๐Ÿ–๐ŸŽ„
Campfire Christmas far exceeded my expectations. I really enjoyed this, a lot of fun, liked all the characters and couples, but it's also a great friendship movie more than anything else.

This is and isn't a Christmas movie. While the movie bookends with Christmas the bulk of the movie takes place in July. In may ways this is your typical Hallmark film, but with a few fresh elements. We start the movie with struggling writer Peyton (Tori Anderson) who's parents are selling their camp, and it's completely fine to sell the family business and not pass it down generation to generation. So for the camp's last season they're inviting everyone who's ever been, and their families, to celebrate one last go, and the camp's beloved Christmas in July tradition. Games, decorating, arts and crafts, putting on a play, and all that joyous stuff. Lifelong friends, and campers, all meet up for one last adventure. We've got Janice (Caitlin Stryker) and Dave (Matt Hamilton), happily married successful business owners deciding if they wanna start a family. Art teacher Thomas (Corbin Bleu) who is Peyton's ex and hasn't seen her in a few yers. Then we have the star of this movie, at least in my eyes, Beckett (Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman). A successful broadway actor who is still competing with his camp fellow actor nemesis Chris (Alec Santos). The jokes about how he was better because he was a broadway actor and Chris was a daytime actor had me rolling. I need a Beckett spin-off. When Beckett and Chris are asked to co-direct the annual Christmas play a secret is exposed that may change Beckett's view of Chris, and will sparks spark? Will Peyton ever publish a book? Will Thomas make amends and win Peyton's heart back? What do you think? So much fun. There's no real story beat surprises, but I really liked the characters, everyone seemed to be having genuine fun, and the friendships seemed all genuine and believable. I wouldn't mind seeing this group come back for another go round, doesn't even have to be holiday related.

My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐½
